Annual Neighborhood Garage Sale (NOV 5, 2022)

This year the Whiffletree V, VI, VII Neighborhood Garage Sale will be held on November 5, 2022.

Before that day, WHOA will put up a banner indicating the neighborhood garage sale is happening. This is a good time to clean out unwanted items and have a garage sale when others in the neighborhood are having garage sales at the same time.  To participate, simply have your garage sale on November 5, 2022.  Sometimes, neighbors will combine their sales together, which makes it a little more fun!

Each household is responsible for getting their own garage sale permit from the City, which is FREE. (CLICK HERE to go to the Garage Sale page on the City's website).

We have put up posts on various websites that advertise garage sales. When you apply for a garage sale permit with City of Plano, your garage sale will be added to a map indicating homes that are having sales.  No other advertising is needed!

Tips to Help Get Ready for a Garage Sale

Here are some tips that may help you in getting ready for a garage sale.

  • Make an inventory list of what you want to sell
  • Group items that can be put in a box and sold at a general price, like books or toys
  • Get price stickers (you can find these at an office supply store)
  • Get or make signs -- see the City of Plano website above for rules about signs
  • Decide how you are going to display items -- do you need tables? Will everything be on the driveway?
  • Get cash for change: $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills, and maybe a roll of quarters
  • You may consider using a payment service like Venmo in addition to cash
  • Have shopping bags or cardboard boxes on hand to help people carry their goods

What to Do with Unsold Items

The 2022 Texas Recycles Day is on November 12. It is held in the Chase Oaks Church parking lot. This is a great way to donate items you didn't sell at your garage sale.  For more information, see https://www.plano.gov/649/Texas-Recycles-Day.

RESULTS Are in from the 2022 Peanut Butter Drive

Whiffletree achieved the title of "Nuttiest Neighborhood in Plano" once again!

am proud to announce that due to the tremendous support of our neighbors, Whiffletree donated 4,873 pounds of peanut butter to the 2022 North Texas Food Bank Peanut Butter Drive.  This equates to 10.03 pounds per home in the neighborhood.  This amount is more than double the next Plano neighborhood, earning Whiffletree the honor of being named the Nuttiest Neighborhood in Plano for the 3rd time in the past 4 years.

Thank you to all who donated to this important cause to assist food insecure families in our community during these difficult times!

2022 National Night Out, October 4, 6:00 PM at Prairie Meadow Park

Whiffletree will host annual National Night Out (NNO) along with our neighbors from Estates of Forest Creek on Tuesday, October 4 at 6:00 PM at Prairie Meadow Park, next to Mathews Elementary School.

National Night Out is a community-building event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, and better places to live. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

We have invited Mayor, John Muns, and Police Chief, Ed Drain, to join us at NNO as they did last year. Along with City of Plano leaders, we expect several Plano Police Officers will also attend. We invite all Whiffletree neighbors to join us in this event.

As we did last year, we will have Handel’s ice cream for all attendees so come on out to National Night Out on Tuesday, October 4 at 6:00 PM, meet your neighbors as well as City of Plano leaders and several Plano Police officers who protect us. We look forward to seeing you there!

Annual Parade & Picnic - July 2, 2022, 11 AM

On a bright and yes warm Texas July 2nd, 170 Whiffletree neighbors celebrated Independence Day at Prairie Meadow Park.  As has been tradition, the event was supported by the fantastic people in Plano Fire and Police Departments.  The parade was led by Plano Fire engine and numerous police vehicles.  Kids of all ages participated in the parade around Whiffletree neighborhood.  Then all partook in the delicious lunch provided by the Hamburger Man.

It was a great opportunity to for neighbors to meet neighbors on a beautiful day and to celebrate an important milestone in our history.  Thanks to all the neighbors that joined us and special thanks to Bill and Jenn Webb for their leadership in organizing this event along with many helpers and also to the Plano Fire Department and Police Department personnel who protect us 365 days a year, for their continue support of all who live in Plano.

We awarded Baskin & Robbins gift card prizes for best decorated stroller/wagon to the Harding’s, bicycle to Joe Martin and attire to John Nwosu.  Congratulations to all our winners and thanks to everyone who participated in the annual event.

If you have any photos to share with us, CLICK ON THIS LINK to upload them to a secure website.  Once received, we will upload them into Whiffletree Photo Gallery on our website for all neighbors to view.  Thank you

Great American Clean-up, Saturday, April 23, 9AM at Prairie Meadow Park

This coming Saturday, April 23, is the Great American Clean-up, an annual event where neighbors come together to pick up trash that may have accumulated over the winter.  The event starts at 9 AM where we will meet at the pavilion at Prairie Meadow Park next to Mathews Elementary.  Our area of clean-up responsibility is from the edge of the parking lot of the park up to and including the areas around the lake near Davis Library.  Don’t worry, we are not going into the lake.  We need volunteers to assist on this project.  The more volunteers, the quicker we accomplish this project.

Plano will provide trash bags as well as disposable rubber gloves although it is recommended that participants also bring work gloves to wear over the rubber gloves.  It is also recommended that participants wear long sleeve shirts, pants, hat, sunscreen, and closed toe shoes for safety.  Each participant may want to bring a bottle of water to remain hydrated. Prior to the start of the event, all participants will be required to sign the waiver form (any participants under 18 years require adult to sign the waiver form) and receive instructions.  When done, we turn in trash and the various supplies at Chase Oaks Church parking lot at 281 Legacy Drive by 12 noon. There is party where we can chat with City of Plano representatives and enjoy some food, games, giveaways, and maybe learn something new. All participants are invited to attend the post clean-up party.

We are looking for volunteers to participate in this event.  The benefits are we clean up an area that many of us walk and see frequently.  For some participants, this is an opportunity to earn volunteer hours, which will be recorded.

So come on out and join us for this event to clean up the park and then enjoy lunch at Chase Oaks Church after we have completed the clean-up.  If you plan to join us, please email Robert Simmons at r.simmonsdfd@gmail.com.

See you on Saturday!  Thanks in advance for your participation in this annual event.
