Neighborhood Garage Sale (November 2)

This year the Whiffletree V, VI, VII Neighborhood Garage Sale will be held on November 2, 2024. Before that day, WHOA will put up a banner indicating the neighborhood garage sale is happening. This is a good time to clean out unwanted items and have a garage sale when others in the neighborhood are having garage sales at the same time.  Sometimes, neighbors will combine their sales together, which makes it a little more fun!

Each household is responsible for their own garage sale permit, which is FREE and can be applied for online: CLICK HERE FOR GARAGE SALE PERMIT

Click this link to the City of Plano website for information about holding a garage sale in Plano, https://ecop.plano.gov/GarageSales/default.aspx.

We will post the neighborhood garage sale date on various websites that advertise garage sales. When you apply for a garage sale permit with City of Plano, your garage sale will be added to a map indicating homes that are having sales.  No other advertising is needed!

The 2024 Texas Recycles Day is on November 9. It is held in the Chase Oaks Church parking lot. This is a great way to donate items you didn't sell at your garage sale.  For more information about what can be donated on Texas Recycles Day and other services, see https://www.plano.gov/649/Texas-Recycles-Day.

For other recycling events in Plano, check this site: https://www.plano.gov/1002/Community-Recycling-Events.

TIPS to help you get ready for a garage sale

  • Make an inventory list of what you want to sell
  • Group items that can be put in a box and sold at a general price, like books or toys.
  • Get price stickers (you can find these at an office supply store)
  • Get or make signs - see the City of Plano website above for rules about signs.
  • Decide how you are going to display items - do you need tables? Will everything be on the driveway?
  • Get cash for change: $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills, and maybe a roll of quarters.
  • You may consider using a payment service like Venmo in addition to cash.
  • Have shopping bags or cardboard boxes on hand to help people carry their goods

Annual Peanut Butter Drive (September 1-30)

The North Texas Food Bank Peanut Butter Drive is now open for donations!

The NTFB PB Drive goal is to assist food insecure families across North Texas is now open for donations for the entire month of September.  Peanut butter is a healthy, kid-friendly and shelf-stable item that is an important component of nutritional charitable food assistance. Whiffletree neighbors have generously supported this charity in past years.  We hope that generosity continues this year.

Last year our neighbors showed the incredible generosity by donating over 4,000 pounds of peanut butter (actual peanut butter or alternative products and monetary donations), the most of any neighborhood in Plano and among the top 5 of all donating neighborhoods, organizations & companies.  Our neighborhood goal this year is 6,000 pounds of Peanut Butter.

Online donations can be made at https://give.ntfb.org/site/TR/Events/General?team_id=5130&pg=team&fr_id=1201. For your convenience, there is a QR code at the bottom of this email to allow you the ease of using your mobile device to make online donation.

Alternately, you can deliver actual peanut butter or alternative nut butters, such as almond butter, to the home of Debbie & Tommy Mrazek at 7325 Paul Calle Drive.  You can also drop off cash or a check at the Mrazek’s home (checks payable to WHOA).

We will accumulate all the cash and check donations and make one donation to NTFB Peanut Butter Drive on behalf of Whiffletree neighbors. Your generous donations will be greatly appreciated by food insecure families across North Texas.  Thank you!

SCREENING WALL Replacement Plans

The City of Plano will be replacing 5 screening walls on both sides of Independence Parkway north of Legacy. This includes the screening wall from Clymer to Caravan. Construction is scheduled to start in late June or July and require approximately 1 year to complete. CLICK HERE to view the map showing locations of the construction

A NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Tuesday, June 18, in Building Inspections Training Room, Municipal Center, 1520 K Avenue.  At this meeting, City of Plano personnel will outline the near-term screening wall projects across all of Plano and answer questions from neighbors.  All Whiffletree neighbors are invited to attend this meeting. Emergency Preparedness

Did you know that Texas leads the nation in terms of dollar value of damages caused by Disasters? Did you also know that this escalation in property damage has resulted in the exit of many insurance companies from Texas and it also resulted in dramatic increases in homeowner's insurance premiums? You can read more details about this by clicking on any of the items that appear below.

Winter Social (January 22, 2024)

Ninety-five Whiffletree neighbors attended our annual Winter Social on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Napoli’s Italian Restaurant.  As you can see from the photos, this was a fun event enjoyed by all.  This event is a great opportunity to reacquaint yourself with longtime friends & neighbors as well as to create new friendships.

This annual event is for paid WHOA members.  It was great to see so many Whiffletree neighbors.  We hope to see even more Whiffletree neighbors at this event next January.

Should the Annual Directory Be Electronic? (SURVEY RESULTS – Feb, 2024)

Thank you to the 121 Whiffletree neighbors that responded to the survey about the annual directory and feedback on the options that we are considering, which include:

  1. Continue printing and distributing directories to all paid members as we have done in the past.
  2. Add online PDF that would be available to all paid Whiffletree HOA (WHOA) members using a password to protect the security of this information.
  3. Give paid members the option not to receive the printed directory (op-out).

We Need Your Input Regarding the Annual Directory

Each year, we have printed and delivered a paper copy of the annual neighborhood Directory to all residents who paid their HOA dues.  We have seen a substantial increase in printing costs for the Directory and as a result, the WHOA Board is considering options that could reduce this cost. The Board requested that we survey our residents for their feedback on this topic.

The survey contains only 4 questions, so it won't take long to complete this.  Here is the link for the survey: https://www.mywhiffletreehoa.com/directory-survey

Thanks in advance for providing your feedback by taking time to complete the survey. Note that the survey results and all directory information is treated confidentially.
