Plano Neighborhood Fitness Competition

Whiffletree has won the annual Plano Neighborhood Fitness Competition all 3 times since its inception in 2020 and we want to again be crowned Fittest Neighborhood in Plano.  One change this year is that the competition will be held in October as opposed to previous years which held this in November.

How to Participate in the Fitness Competition

  • Register Online
    • Each individual person registers online (instructions and the sign up link expected to be available on 9/15).
    • You can sign up any time from September 15 to October 7.
    • Once you sign up, you receive a link to download an app that you use to record exercise sessions on your phone, tablet or PC.
    • The competition runs during the month of October, so starting 10/1, you record your activity and length of time you exercised and/or distance traveled if you run, walk or bike.
    • The app converts your activity to points that you earn throughout October.   More info to come but if you walk, run/jog, bike, swim, exercise, do Pilates, Zumba, dance or participate in other physical activities, we want you on the Whiffletree team.  We want to defend our title as Fittest Neighborhood in Plano!
  • To build some excitement in this competition across the City of Plano, Plano Neighborhood Services will do a social media push.
    • This will include a video they plan to produce on Wednesday, 9/13, at Prairie Meadow Park.
    • They are asking individual winners from last year as well as Whiffletree participants (as overall team winner) to be at the park 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Wednesday, 9/13, to make a video to hype up the competition.
    • So if you participated in last year’s competition or plan to participate this year, come on up to Prairie Meadow Park next to Mathews to be part of the video as defending champions.
    • If you have your t-shirt from winning last year’s competition, please wear it.  If you plan to participate this year and don’t have last year’s shirt or cannot locate last year’s shirt, come anyway.  We would love a large Whiffletree turnout.  Also, if you have any equipment that you use to exercise, such a bicycle or exercise mat, exercise bands, etc., bring it.  FYI, Plano Marketing Director, Stacy Rogers, will lead the video recording so it will be a good quality recording and help showcase Whiffletree as the exceptional neighborhood that we are.
    • I am asking Whiffletree neighbors to come to Prairie Meadow Park this Wednesday at 11:30 AM to  participate in the video.  I certainly understand if your work or family schedule prevents your participation but would love a large turnout.

Let me know if you plan to beat Prairie Meadow Park on Wednesday for the video in case weather causes a reschedule.

Also, plan to sign up for the competition when it opens on 9/15.   You don’t need to to do hours of exercise every day.  Even if you walk around the neighborhood a few times a week or do occasional workouts, we want you on the team.  Every person that joins the Whiffletree team and does some exercising is earning points for our team.  We need you on our team even if you are only a casual or part time athlete.  Everyone can contribute; plus you get the health benefits of exercising.

Hope to see you Wednesday and also have you join the Whiffletree team to help us retain our title as Fittest Neighborhood in Plano!
